Mom Pampering Getaway is Selfcare not Selfish, review Sanctuary Camelback Resort & Spa
Hey Mamas,
I love my at-home Mom Sunday Spa Night, but it’s also nice to plan a weekend pampering getaway. Two weeks, I was able to scrape (yes, scrape) together child care for five days, in order to tack on a two-day pampering getaway onto an existing two-day charity gathering.
Back in October, when the Vasculitis Foundation decided to hold our board meeting in Scottsdale Arizona, I had no objections. Sun, sleep and the opportunity to spa-it-up in the dessert during winter in NYC – sign me up. (Side bar: this was when I still had some part time help I could call upon to fill-in when I needed to fly somewhere for work.) I’ll tell you more about the Vasculitis Foundation, my amazing late father, and my passionate commitment to empowering and educating the vasculitis community, in a post later this week. For now, let’s talk about getaways. Whether we can plan them on a whim, or need to block out dates a year in advance, a solo spa trip, or moms-only getaway is a must for my mental sanity. I need time to wake up to myself, tend to my own wellness with no thought of anyone else, be surrounded by women that understand my daily mama hustle, and spa-it up from head to toe.
The Sanctuary Resort & Spa in Scottsdale provided me with the perfect setting for complete relaxation – minutes away from breathtaking hikes, tranquil décor with views of the Praying Monk and Camelback Mountain, and let’s not forget their Asian-inspired spa. The irony of the trip, is that my two and half days of pampering really amounted to less than one full day (thanks to food poising) but I made it work – night time spa appointment and a morning hike before our (went with my mama BFF, my sister) flight back to New York City. Whether it’s a one-day getaway at a local spa (here in NYC, I’ve heard great reviews of Sojo Spa Club) or a cross-country trek to the amazing Sanctuary Resort & Spa, a trip like this is like a major battery pack for your mind, body and soul. For many of us, it’s not easy getting way, but this is where we need to involve our families and let them know how important it is for our sanity – yes, I mean sanity – to get some away time that is ALL ABOUT YOU.
As mothers, we are often giving without asking, protecting our family without protecting ourselves, nurturing without feeding our own souls. A pampering weekend isn’t selfish, it’s self-preservation and, yes, sanity salvation! If you agree, I’d love to hear your comments. Also, if you have a getaway you love, drop a comment and let our mama community know which wellness retreats or spas rock your world.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_media_grid element_width=”6″ gap=”1″ item=”mediaGrid_SimpleOverlay” grid_id=”vc_gid:1531335413066-a823799e-5fc9-7″ include=”9502,9497,9500,9501,9498,9503,9499″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
