Moloco Swimwear for Nursing Moms, Mompreneur Monday Shout Out

Life’s a beach, for nursing moms, or at least they can make it look beachy, breezy “easy” by wearing MOLOCO Swimwear, thoughtfully designed for nursing moms.

Mompreneur Mika Oakes is on a mission to make nursing mom life a little easier with MOLOCO Swimwear, her line of chic, functional swimsuits for nursing moms that come in both one and two piece options.

Mika sat down with me, after attending the recent Hustle Like a Mom mompreneur panel + mingle, to tell me more about MOLOCO and why connecting with her creative juices makes her a better mom

When did you launch your business? Just about one month ago. We are brand new!

How old are your kid(s)? I have a 5 1/2 year old son named Jonah.

What motivates you to hustle for your business, when mom life seems to be swallowing you whole? My business is my creative outlet. Having the ability to express creative freedom makes me a better mother. When I am feeling overtaken by motherhood, I remind myself why I started Moloco in the first place, and that keeps me motivated.

What does it mean to Hustle Like a Mom? It means to show up even when you don’t feel like it. To stay connected to what’s important to you, and what’s bigger than you at the same time – so you can stay with the motivation, continue to feel inspired and connect with other like-minded people along the way!

What’s your biggest challenge right now? Digital Marketing

How do you manage your days, your time? My son has a pretty organized schedule with school and after school programs… so I do as much as I can while he is engaged in these activities, and then try my best to be as present as I can be when I am with him. I also incorporate self care – yoga, Pilates, etc to stay sane!

What do you like to do to unwind and self care? Yoga, and walking to the waterfront of Williamsburg, where we live. I also value spending time with female friends and other mothers.

What or who inspires you to keep pushing your business forward? Connecting with other mompreneurs and entrepreneurs alike. I enjoy hearing what has worked for others, and weaving what I learn into pushing my business forward.

What has been your biggest “aha” moment this year? Rome wasn’t built in a day! When launching a company, it’s easy to get swept away in the fantasy of what you think it’s going to look like… especially at the beginning. Everyday I am humbled and reminded that it takes time to build, and when I realized that, it took a lot of the initial pressure off.
