3 TipS for mom to stay sane during covid 19 crisis

It’s been a week – or, in our house, two weeks – of home-school trials and crying, of minute-by-minute changes and never-ending adjustments. But, here we are!

We all made it through a week of social distancing and school closures. And, if you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve had monkey brain emotions, jumping from “I can do this” to “let’s morn the loss of my career”.

Today, Monday evening at 10pm, as I get in 2 hours of entrepreneurial hustle, I’m less agitated, and more invigorated, to push myself and this hustling community forward.

WHAT IS IGNITING MY FIRE?

I didn’t find a magic genie that grants me the extra hours I need to work, the patience I need to teach 1st grade, or the libido I need to … ya know.

YOU ARE IGNITING MY FIRE. COMMUNITY IS IGNITING MY FIRE.

I have flipped my mood, thanks to your DMs on Instagram, your sharing on my virtual mom mingles on IGlives, you’re inspiring and often hilarious school mom life shenanigans.

My flipped mood, and two weeks of the new norm has taught me three valuable lessons.

3 TIPS FOR STAYING SANE DURING COVID 19 CRISIS

  • GIVE YOURSELF AND THE KIDS AN OFF DAY

Last Friday, I was exhausted from schooling, the news cycle, cooking, cleaning, conference calls to pivot to new digital offerings … ENOUGH. I dubbed it “Free Flow Friday”. The kids didn’t have every class that was required. I fed them simple meals. They Facetimed with my sister, while I slept. I took a mental break from the anxiety of uber productivity.

This week, if your mind and body need it, go for a “Whatever We Need Wednesday” or a “Throw out the Rules Thursday”. Kids will be delighted. You will be relieved. And, you’ll likely all have a more joyful outlook, the following day.

  • GIVE YOURSELF GRACE

You can’t mess up at this teacher mom life. Make that a post-it and stick it to your bathroom mirror!

In fact, you’ll drive yourself crazy if you’re even trying to be perfect. Relax. Your kids will still advance to high school. The little ones (like mine) will never remember practicing number bonds, but they will remember the bonding over baking. So, mama relax. You absolutely got this – you just do it your own way!

  • GIVE YOURSELF GOOD FACE

Years ago, while I was pregnant with my first, I was working on a book deal. My book was called “Never Surrender, How Pregnancy Is Where Marriage Goes to Die” – ya, I might still put that one out.

Back then, the concept was about not looking like a shlept just because you’re a new mom. And, I never did. I hated the idea of me seeing me – never mind, my husband seeing me – as a hot mess.

During Covid 19 social distancing, just because you are home, doesn’t mean you should surrender your style and your beauty routine.

Wake up, wash your face, put on a little rouge – maybe just mascara and blush.

Put on a nice top, feel free to pair with legging, and step into your day.

Looking good will make you feel good. When you feel good, you’re more inclined to have more patience for your kids, more desire to push on with your mompreneur hustle … and maybe even more energy to end the day with a bonus from your husband.
