Sanctuary Spa Arizona Mom Pampering Getaway

Mom Pampering Getaway is Selfcare not Selfish, review Sanctuary Camelback Resort & Spa

Hey Mamas,

I love my at-home Mom Sunday Spa Night, but it’s also nice to plan a weekend pampering getaway.

Two weeks, I was able to scrape (yes, scrape) together child care for five days, in order to tack on a two-day pampering getaway onto an existing two-day charity gathering.

Back in October, when the Vasculitis Foundation decided to hold our board meeting in Scottsdale Arizona, I had no objections. Sun, sleep and the opportunity to spa-it-up in the dessert during winter in NYC – sign me up. (Side bar: this was when I still had some part time help I could call upon to fil-in when I needed to fly somewhere for work.)

I’ll tell you more about the Vasculitis Foundation, my amazing late father, and my passionate commitment to empowering and educating the vasculitis community, in a post later this week.

For now, let’s talk about getaways. Whether we can plan them on a whim, or need to block out dates a year in advance, a solo spa trip, or moms-only getaway is a must for my mental sanity.

I need time to wake up to myself, tend to my own wellness with no thought of anyone else, be surrounded by women that understand my daily mama hustle, and spa-it up from head to toe.

The Sanctuary Resort & Spa in Scottsdale provided me with the perfect setting for complete relaxation – minutes away from breathtaking hikes, tranquil décor with views of the Praying Monk and Camelback Mountain, and let’s not forget their Asian-inspired spa.

The irony of the trip, is that my two and half days of pampering really amounted to less than one full day (thanks to food poising) but I made it work – night time spa appointment and a morning hike before our (went with my mama BFF, my sister

) flight back to New York City.

Whether it’s a one-day getaway at a local spa (here in NYC, I’ve heard great reviews of Sojo Spa Club) or a cross-country trek to the amazing Sanctuary Resort & Spa, a trip like this is like a major battery pack for your mind, body and soul.

For many of us, it’s not easy getting way, but this is where we need to involve our families and let them know how important it is for our sanity – yes, I mean sanity – to get some away time that is ALL ABOUT YOU.

As mothers, we are often giving without asking, protecting our family without protecting ourselves, nurturing without feeding our own souls. A pampering weekend isn’t selfish, it’s self-preservation and, yes, sanity salvation!

If you agree, I’d love to hear your comments.

Also, if you have a getaway you love, drop a comment and let our mama community know which wellness retreats or spas rock your world.

Mom Sunday Spa Night: Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil #MeaningfulMeMoments

Hey Mamas,

It’s been a loooong week – trips with kids, finally deciding to kick off Mommy Moments with Pamela Pekerman my Facebook LIVE show debuting this Wednesday 1pmEST, tons of planning for Shop 4 Vasculitis shop for a cause campaign, and, oh ya, new house planning still going strong.

Which is why, I love nothing more than unwinding with a little Mom Sunday Spa Night. #WeAllNeedMeTime

If I waited until I put my kids to bed, which is now creeping around 8:30/45pm, I’d have no energy to enjoy my beloved spa zen zone. So, earlier this year, I decided, for my own sanity, and the overall betterment of my family, I would get a babysitter to come from 5:30-8:30pm.

It’s a $40 weekly investment into my wellness, and I take these three hours very seriously – seriously zen, that is.

Tonight, my bathroom smelled like a rose garden, and I left the tub feeling moisturized and renewed for the week ahead.  (FYI Tonight I actually couldn’t get a sitter, but my father-in-law came for an hour!)

Weleda, a certified natural brand I trust enough to use on my kids – which means a lot – is my go-to for cleaner, green ways to lather my body. Weleda’s  Wild Rose Body Oil is a great way to cap off a bath and lock in your skin’s moisture while also leaving it with a silky shine.

I pair it with the Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash, which has a thick, velvet-like texture. When I lather on this body wash, I really try to be mindful of the moment, and grateful for having these pampering scents take over my body and bathroom. #Mamaste

For my cleaner-greener mamas, Weleda is free of GMOs, synthetic dyes, chemical preservatives, SLS, and other no-nos we should try to avoid. The smell of the products comes from the wild, biodynamic or organic essential oils.

Join me next Sunday for more Mom Sunday Spa Night suggestions.

Until then, follow along via Instagram, this week, as I launch Episode 1 of “Mommy Moments with Pamela Pekerman” on Facebook LIVE 1pmEST on Wednesday November 1st. My first guest is Stacy Igel, a kick-ass momtrepreneur and founder of Boy Meets Girl. I’ll also be sharing tips and products to help improve quality of beauty sleep.

Spa Week $50 Treatments are Back, Moms Rejoice & Rejuvenate

Hey Mamas.

It’s Sunday. And …

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Spa Week!!!!!

spaweek_sheva_spa_2

You didn’t actually think I would say holiday shopping? It’s WAY too soon to think about that, so stop stressing me out.

In fact, stop stressing yourself out, and indulge in Spa Week $50 treatments during the week of October 17 – 23, 2016.

It’s still not too late to save money on a luxurious facial (try a diamond facial, it will glow you up and remind your skin what it’s like to look like you actually get enough sleep), or a foot massage (because mama’s feet scream at the end of the day.)

Whenever I’m near my hubby’s office in midtown, I try to get a foot therapy massage at Sheva Spa NY. Outside the spa doors, it’s the business buzz of one of Manhattan’s most frantic, dollar-driven neighborhoods, inside it’s a zen-zone of purple and orange flowers, gilded deities and all-you-can-drink Thai tea.

I never cared about foot massages until I became a mom. Mom is the most on-your-feet job I’ve ever had, more demanding and damaging (physically …. and mentally) than anything I could have imagined.

So, I indulge. I indulge whenever, wherever.

I create Meaningful Me Moments at home (hello kid-free bedroom with candles), in the bathroom (because locking the door and putting on Brazilian bum bum cream while munchkins are screaming outside counts!!) in the car (yes, I’ve been know to stay in the car longer than needed while my mom or nanny are with the kids, so I can listen to music, or just listen to my brain go numb … like you haven’t don’t that?) and, at the spa (by far, the best option).

Like I always say, I’m no good to anyone else, if I’m not at my best. And, I’m not at my best, if I’m not taking some time outs.

My good friend, Latham Thomas, whom I recently profiles in my momBOSS series (more inspirational moms coming soon, promise) says, “You need to mother yourself first.”

So, if you’re looking for your next mommy-time-out that’s actually away from the house, check out SpaWeek.com. And, while you’re there, check out my latest articles for SpaWeek’s blog, where I discuss why it’s so important to make time for yourself.

There are tons of high-end spas and medi-spas participating in Spa Week October 2016, all across the country. So, moms everywhere can rejoice and book up.

Share your #MeaningfulMeMoments spa experience with me @PamelaPekerman on Instagram, and let me know how taking time out makes you feel better about yourself, makes you more productive and even makes you a better mom.

Meaningful Me Moments: Glowing, Youthful Skin with Diamond Microdermabrasion Facial, Plus SpaWeek $50 Event

I’m shining bright like a diamond!

Maybe that’s because this past Thursday I had my first, but definitely not my last, diamond microdermabrasion facial.M3_041116_1

As part of my new partnership with Spa Week, where I’ll be sharing my Meaningful Me Moments and Always Be Your Best Your wellness and beauty tips on their blog SpaWeek Daily, I went to get what has literally been a life-changing, rocking-my-world facial, at the New York Fashion Beauty Spa.

I believe your face is your calling card, and must be tended with delicate care. Heck, I even taught my kids to sit in the bathroom and count my nail polish or read a book, so mommy can apply her 7+ step Sulwhasoo and Naturopathica masks, serums, emulsions, moisturizers, eye creams, oh my.

How have I never done a microdermabrasion, let alone one with diamonds?

So, what is a microdermabrasion? And, how is it that Pam actually spelled that word correctly? (I know you’re thinking that big sis!!)

Well, a microdermabrasion is a type of treatment during which dead skin cells are exfoliated and vacuumed off the face.Ya, it sucks all the nastiness right off your face. Eek!! I looked at the removed dead skin and debris. It was totally unnecessary baggage.diamond-microdermabrasion

Oh, so the diamond part, the tip of the microdermabrasion wand is covered in tiny diamonds, which, together with the strong suction, make it possible to exfoliate the skin more thoroughly than other procedures. With the flexibility of using different suction levels, this procedure also increases blood flow to the skin, which helps to produce collagen. #winning

My skin instantly felt lighter, looked smoother, and shined. It truly shined like a radiant, diamond.

Following the appointment, I had lunch with some pr and TV-anchor friends – these gals know good skin. Everyone kept asking me what new shimmer I was using on my face, even what procedures I’d done.

The compliments continued at home, with my husband. And, have following me for several days since.

Aside from promoting a healthy, glowing complexion, a microdermabrasion:

  • Reduces appearance of wrinkles
  • Decreases or eliminates mild to moderate acne scarring
  • Helps decrease hyperpigmentation or brown spots
  • Diminishes look of stretch marks

Youthful, rejuvenated skin – check.

Painless spa procedure – check.

Relaxation #MeaninfulMeMoments – check.

Getting a great deal – double check, thanks to SpaWeek.

The diamond microdermabrasion facial I received normally costs $140. But, this April 11-17, as part of Spa Week’s  bi-annual event, it’s just $50 for the treatment.1

Simply visit SpaWeek.com, become a member (no cost, only benefits!), search for $50 spa treatments, and book your appointments online or call the spa.

Not in New York? No problem. Spa Week works with hundreds of spa and wellness locations across North America to provide two to three full-service spa treatments for just $50 each, offering everyone access to the spa and wellness lifestyle. Meaningful Me Moments for everyone!
