Mom Sunday Spa Night: DIY Chocolate & Wine Sugar Scrub

Hey Mamas,

Forget about Mother’s Day. You hustle like a mom and need a real holiday, with proper celebratoriy practices … Happy National Drink Wine Day, ladies!

I’m celebrating by upcycling terrible red wine – that should not be consumed by mouth, but can still be a useful beauty booster – into a DIY wine scrub.

This mama isn’t exactly a DIY queen, but I hate throwing out food, and that includes wine. So, after a little digging into the proper ingredients and proportions for scrubs, I’ve come up with a wine-tastic Wine & Chocolate Sugar Scrub.

Drink some wine and enjoy the leftovers, tonight, for your well-deserved Mom Sunday Spa Night.

  • 1 cup sugar (I love the taste and texture of raw, organic sugar)
  • ¼ cup Red Wine
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 3 tbs cocoa powder
  • 1 drop of vanilla extract (because I love the smell)

  1. Combine the coconut oil and sugar in a bowl and mix until creamy, making sure to work though all clubs with the back of a spoon.
  2. Add the wine and cocoa powder continuing to stir. The vivid red color and yummy smell will start to come through. Try not to eat your scrub!
  3. Add a drop of vanilla oil or an essential oil if wine sugar scrub national drink wine day

Beauty Benefits of Red Wine & a Wine Sugar Scrub

  • Red Wine improves blood circulation, which keeps your skin rejuvenated
  • Red wine contains polyphenols that prevent cell oxidation, so kiss dull skin goodbye and say hello to your new glow
  • The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties in red wine cleanse skin of oil and impurities, and also reduce further acne breakouts
  • The amino acids in red wine boost skin renewal
  • Antioxidants in red wine form a protective barrier over your skin, which combat the harmful damage we get from sun exposure (PS Sunscreens still needed!!)

Friday 5 Finds by Pamela Pekerman

Love Is In The Air – Friday 5 Finds

Hey Mamas,

Love is in the air. When we open up our hearts, minds, and style choices, to the possibilities of joy, love flows into our life from all corners.

Pardon me if I sound like a Hallmark card, but a switch went off inside of me sometime in 2016, and I’ve been oozing with love and happiness ever since.

More on my mental shift in upcoming posts, because I so want YOU to know what it feels like to live every breath with gratitude, grace and love.

For now, because I gotta run and take Ilana to a doctor’s checkup – #momlife –, here are my Friday 5 Finds devoted to, what else, LOVE.

Love Is In The Air Pamela Pekerman Friday 5 Finds

Always be ready to receive some love, via the perfect kiss. Sol de Janeiro just came out with the Brazilian Kiss, a lip butter infused with cupuaçu (straight from the Amazon and loaded with moisturizing goodness), açaí and coconut oil, which leaves lips lusciously dewy and smooth. The Brazilian Beijo, aka Brazilian kiss, is said to be a full-body experience. Interested? Check out Tips for the Perfect Brazilian Kiss.

Small acts of kindness can make a huge impact, which is why I’m a firm believer in supporting brands that do good. Love is Project encourages you to think about what love means to you by wearing a hand-beaded LOVE bracelet created by artisans in Kenya. Every purchase creates a sustainable livelihood for hundreds of Maasai (an ethnic group living in Southern Kenya) women & their families. Visit their website to learn how the universal language of LOVE is being shares and celebrated.

I can’t tell you how many women – and men – complimented me on this oversized Deux Lux tote, this week. Clearly, we all just want some hearts and reminders of the power of love.

We all know about face masks, but a mask for your hands is equally as important. A winter beauty essential, the XpresSpa Hand Mask will improve smoothness and moisture content of your hands thanks to shea butter and jojoba oil. Plus, it has collagen (you know I love my collagen) which will firm-up the appearance of your hangs.

I’m obsessed with printed plates and colorful utensils. White Lilac’s I Love Unicorn Plates, make every day feel like a party. Mom bonus – it helps you feed two toddlers a LOT faster!

Beauty Giveaway: NuFace mini At-Home Microcurrent Device

So, it’s 8:45pm the kids are in bed, the hubby isn’t home, dinner isn’t done …

Time for my uninterrupted, evening beauty routine. The newest piece of my youthful puzzle is NuFACE mini, which I featured in my most recent PIX11 Morning News segment “Ahh-ha Products Created by Women for Women“.

I’ve been using this at-home microcurrent-emitting device for about four weeks, and it really does lift and tone the skin. I certainly feel refreshed after each 5-minute face workout. It’s been called Pilates for your face. I love that phrase, so I’m stealing it.

Any who, so I’m doing my thing, gliding the silver balls of the device on my face (ya, ya, insert perverted joke) while I head down to boil some potatoes for the mashed potatoes that will compliment the veal sausages I picked up at my local Italian butcher shop – hey Frank & Sal’s – when, it dawn’s on me:

Pam, why not share the skin-lifting love with your peeps?

Friday Five Finds: Health and Beauty Benefits of Oatmeal for Mom, Kids & Home

Winter winds and warm oatmeal, there’s no better combo.

I have a bowl of oatmeal almost every morning, as do the munchkins. It’s been my digestive salvation post-pregnancy. Yes, the kiddos did a number on my insides! Fortunately, oatmeal is loaded with fiber which helps your digestive system run smoothly.

Beauty-wise oats are a tool for radiant skin, and have been used in skincare as far back as 2000 BC. Actually, oatmeal is one of the few natural ingredients to receive recognition from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Health and Beauty Benefits of Oatmeal

  1. Feel Fuller Longer – Oatmeal is rich in soluble fiber, so  it stays in your stomach longer, making it less likely for you to have hunger cravings
  2. Heart Healthy – Oatmeal contains both calcium and potassium, which reduce blood pressure numbers and risk of coronary heart diseases. (FYI My friends at Burlington, along with Wendy Williams, are doing a really amazing Women Heart Campaign. #HealthyHeartSelfie Learn all about it here.
  3. Digestive Salvation – Oatmeal swoops into your digestive system and flushes things out, makes stool softer, thus move through you intestines faster, preventing constipation
  4. HydrationColloidal oatmeal, produced from finely ground oat grains, is full of vitamins, minerals and lipids that add moisture to skin
  5. Soothing Properties – Oatmeal contains both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, ideal for sensitive skin and to treating skin disorders like sunburns, eczema and poison ivy (every mom should have a diy oatmeal cream, just in case)

Here are Five Finds for Mom, Kids and Home inspired by my love of oatmeal. Have a fabulous weekend.

PS I’ll be doing a Meaningful Me Moments getaway in Manhattan, this weekend. Follow along on Instagram, and learn about one of my favorite boutique hotels The Gregory.

4. AMOREPACIFIC Intensive Vitalizing Eye Essence $95 – Part of the Korean skincare philosophy, essences contain effective active ingredients in a concentrated form that affect the skin on the cellular level thus giving maximum product penetration. This is eye product is applied after toning and pre-hydrating, but before serum to achieve optimal results. The metal tipped wand applicator cools skin temperature upon contact to de-puff and brighten the delicate eye area. The lift action is where the oat extract does its thing, visibly firings and lifting skin, as well as hydrating by creating a protective barrier surrounding the eye area most prone to sagging.
