FRIDAY FIVE FINDS: Celebrating National Rose Month – Rosé Anyone?

Hey Mamagers!

Happy Friday. We’ve managed our families from Monday through today, and we’ve managed to make it to the weekend with our sanity – well, most of it! With Saturday on the horizon, it looks like everything is coming up roses.

No, seriously, it’s all rosy and roses, with June being National Rose Month. Here’s a fun post I found about it on TheGardenDiary.com.

Cabbage_Roses_National_Rose_Month

Do you have a favorite rose? Mine is the Cabbage Rose.

To celebrate National Rose Month, I’m spotlighting five of my favorite rosy finds for mom, kids and home. I hope you love this romantic, elegant flower and scent just as much as I do.

FirdayFInds_National_Rose_Month_PiecesofPam

1. True Violet 2 In 1 Pencil Dress In Rose Floral Print $96 – If you’re like me and will never sport the crop top look, but like the idea of a layered crop over a high-waisted skirt, this dress is your summer-style solution. Wear this rose-print dress without worrying about things (you know what I’m talking about) popping out, or feeling out-of-bounds for your age. Sorry, but the rules do change as you get older, and some things – ie crop tops – should be left to the teenagers.

2. Le Grand Courtage  Brut Rose $25 – Fruity, fresh and super fun to drink alone, or serve to guests -mini bottles available and perfect for al-fresco parties-, this rose is my new go-to summer drink. (PS Be on the lookout for it to pop up in an upcoming Pamela+Vanessa #momsandwhine episode).

3. Naturopathica Rose Geranium Soothing Mist $28 – Ideal for keeping skin hydrated during the summer heat, I also keep this mist by my desk for a mid-day refresh. And, it was one of my lux labour bag essentials. Steve, my husband, misted me during delivery. It’s a fabulous touch to a not-always-so-fab process.

4. Schylling Children’s Tin Tea Set $19.95 My little girl loves to play tea. Actually, so does my son! They must get it from their mother. My tea obsession knows no bounds.

5. Diptyque Roses Candle $62  — This is great to burn when guests are coming. I’m a fan of burning candles in hallway bathrooms, used by guests.

Friday Five Finds: Pineapple Fashion and Fun for Mom, Kids and Home

Brrr!! What’s going on outside? Is it really just two days until May?

In an effort to will summer (let’s just forget about Spring) weather our way, today’s Friday Five Finds are inspired by the palm trees and pineapples I enjoyed on my recent vacation at Malliouhana Hotel & Spa‎ in Auberge. Pineapple fashion, pineapple fun, pineapple Friday Finds for all!

Pineapple Friday Five Finds

1. Overstock.com Pineapple Applique Burlap 20-inch Pillow $41.99 – Can someone please pore this mom a Pina Colada while she lounges? Reality check – mom, aka me, is likely poring someone a drink. But, my day will come!

2. MILLYicon Pineapple Print Rimini Short Jumpsuit $225 – Rompers are my new go-to staple because they can go from day to night with a change of shoes and some extra bold accessories. I’d totally rock this in Costco at 11am and a club (not that I’ve seen a club since 2010 … waaa waaaa) at 11pm.

3. MeMe London Lucky Pineapple Bracelet $51 – This is my new go-to brand for fun, stretchy braclets. Have you caught my arm candy love on Instagram?

4. Mini Melissaicon Baby’s & Toddler’s Pineapple Perforated Jelly Mary Jane Flats $58 – Because these are so much juicier than your average jellies.

5. ZARA Ice-cream and Pineapple T-Shirt $5.90 – Two fabulous summer essentials, plus one fabulous price, equals a win for mom and munchkin.

And now some views of the hotel, to warm up my soul before I head down to finish up tonight’s final Passover meal.

Friday Five Finds: Earth Day Eco Essentials for Mom Kids & Home

Happy Earth Day!

Ever since I was in elementary school and we learned about the concept of “Reduce Reuse Recycle” – this was a rather novel concept to discuss with kids in the early 90s, at least in my corner of Brooklyn  – I’ve been a little budding environmentalist. I began to beg my parents to start recycling, which they did … eventually.

When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an environmental lobbyist working for Mother Nature against the evils of those that want to strip her naked. (But, an internship at YM Magazine (RIP) altered my dreams).

When I got married and became a home owner, I laid down the rules for more intense recycling, of course by now the NYC government had my back. Fines make people do all kinds of things that are good for them – buckle seat belts, recycle, etc.

Most recently, as you may know, I’ve been on a greener, cleaner path to improve my beauty routine, as well as be mindful of the ingredients my family and I inhale via cleaning products.

So, while today is EARTH DAY, these Friday Five GREENER Finds, aren’t just a convenient way to get more traffic on a day when everyone is searching for ways to stroke their eco ego. I’m genuinely excited about the improved health and wellness of myself, my family and my planet thanks to the below items.

As always, I would love to hear from you. Drop a comment below and let me know if you use any of these goodies or have your own tips for a cleaner, greener lifestyle.

FridayFive_042216

1. Plum Organics Grow Well Organic Infant Formula ($32.99/21oz) So, breast may be best, but you either don’t want to give up the boob (I totally get you), or your schedule doesn’t allow for best feeding and the machine is just too painful (ya, I’m with you) or you just aren’t producing enough milk (total bummer mama), for any or these reasons, new moms on the hunt for organic formula should check out this new product. I trust Plum Organics, as do many moms. Once you have earned a mom’s trust, we are with you at every turn. Rest assured should I have baby #3, and breast feeding may be off the table (CLICK HERE to read  why) I will likely be turning to this formula (made with organic lactose, no corn syrup solids added, No genetically engineered ingredients, DHA & ARA – basically all the good stuff without all the nasties our munchkins don’t need).

2. Seventh Generation Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent Free & Clear ($28.99/150oz) When I realized my son had eczema, I got a little tougher with my laundry detergent and finally settled on this winner from Seventh Generation. It’s clinically tested to be hypoallergenic, gets the dirt out (which is key, duhh) and it’s made without dyes, synthetic fragrances, petroleum-based ingredient or optical brighteners. Oh and COSTCO carries it – winning!

3. Tata Harper Fortifying Body Lotion ($68) As my acquaintance, secret BFF, and the author of Gorgeous for Good  Sophie Uliano says, if you only  make one greener switch in your beauty routine it should be your body lotion because it covers the biggest part of your, well, body. I’m a huge – read HUGE the way Presidential-hopeful Donald Trump pronounces the word – fan of this farm-to-face brand. The lotion is a great anti-aging, hydrating creme that lives on my nightstand, and gets replenished every 3-4 months.

4. Force of Nature ($89.99) – a brand new appliance that electrolyzes water and a premeasured capsule of salt, water and vinegar, creating two super powerful, cleaning-agent ingredients that are a non-toxic solution for your home. It’s literally a one-stop cleaning, deoderizing and disinfecting solution for the mama who wants a chemical-free option for her home that actually cleans! Ya, so skeptics take note: the electrolyzed water lasts for 2-weeks and it’s up to 10 times more effective than bleach, without the nasty, causes-my-eyes-to-weep smell.

5. The Organic Pharmacy Rose Diamond Face Cream $435 While I’ve been following The Organic Pharmacy on Instagram for about a year, I’ve only recently begun to use their products. While on the hunt for diamond-infused spa and beauty products for my first expert post for SpaWeek’s blog – wahhu READ IT HERE – I was having a hard time finding products that lived up to my greener, cleaner standards. Many diamond-infused and inspired cosmetic and skincare products had lots of luster on the outside and junk on the inside. Then I found this new Rose Diamond Face Cream and was blown away by its thoughtful ingredients. Most importantly, yes, it does have wonderful skin shining and plumping effects. You’ll start to see it over time. FYI This one is price, but when is a good diamond not?

Friday Five Finds: All You Need is Love for Mom, Baby & Home

Coming to you live from my bed – hot tea, toast and honey at hand.

Oh, ya, I’m sick.

The voice is gone, but the spirit of love is pumping inside of me. In honor of Sunday’s big day – Okay, I don’t really care about Valentine’s day, but I do love love – here are five heartfelt All You Need is Love Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home.

Friday Five Finds with Heart

1. GAP Baby Sweater Tunics $15.99-$24.99 each – After Tuesday’s PIX11 segment on Bright Eyes, I went to GAP to pick up some V-day attire for the kids. We’re having a V-day party, on Sunday. By “we” I mean me, my husband, Ilana and David. What else would I want to do?!? GAP’s kids clothing can not be beat – fun designs, amazing quality and ideal prices. #ImAGapKidForLife

2. Target Threshold Small Metal Marquee Light Framed Heart $14.24 – Last year, my mom got us a cheesy heart shaped light. The kids love it. I love it. And, while mine isn’t exactly “chic”, this mimi marquee option from Target is definitively something you can weave into your bedroom, office, even kitchen decor.

3. 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Butter in Peach $15 – Love your lives and keep them moist, even if you’re having a Vday party at home with the kids. I’m absolutely smitten with this beauty brand, which has no artificial dyes, fragrance, additives, preservatives and lead. Your pucker deserves perfection not poison.

4. Burlington Allover Lace Bodysuit $12.99 – Not that you should ONLY, were lingerie on Valentines Day, but do use it as an excuse to get a new set of naughties. This option, from one of my favorite off-price retailer (translation: amazing prices all the time) has maximum coverage, curved middle panels to create a slimmer look, and plenty of sultry appeal. Enjoy daily – AM or PM … or both.

5. Give Baking a Difference Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies $39.95 / dozen – Since my cold and lots of work prevented me from baking a heart shaped sweet challah, that was going to be served with natella, my hubbies favorite condiment, I took necessary precautions and placed an order for these yummy, home-made cookies. Aside from being delicious and arriving in a lovely box, each purchase supports a worthy charity. Follow the founder Saira Gallo on Instagram to see how this momtrepreneur is doing her hustle.

Happy Friday, and Happy almost February.

Friday Five Finds Winter Warm Up

1. Olyve Flowers $85 – $150 – If you’ve ever delivered flowers via a 1-800 service or a local florist you don’t know, you’ve likely overpaid and been underwhelmed. This is NOT that type of flower delivery service. From the freshness of the flowers, to the beautiful vases and, of course, the signature mod-style box packaging, this might have to becoming my new monthly essential. I’ve had Lucy (see below) winking at me with her sexy eyes for over two weeks, and she looks just as youthful as when she first arrived at my doorstep. No botox, or event added watering, thus far, needed. Oh, but the brand currently only ships to NYC, San Diego, LA, Miami and Philly.

2. Wool and The Gang Beginner Kits start at $34.75 – Knitting, it’s not something I ever thought would become a trend. But, from celebs to college kids, everyone…and their grandmother…is a knit whit. While I’m not as fast as our nanny, my mother-in-law or the girl I was eyeing in SOHO last week, when I do my slow and simple knitting (still making my first scarf) I find it very soothing. If you’re looking for a relaxing, in-door activity that gets your mind off work, the kids and outside drama, pick up one of their kits. I kinda wish I was pregnant, so I’d have an excuse to make baby booties. Ah, next time.

Wool and the Gang hat

Ilana’s hat was knit by my mother-in-law from Wool and the Gang thread. Fur pom pom is from Amazon.

3. Kissamint Miss Independamint $19.50 – Nothing warms me up more than kissing my husband. LOVE it like it was 2002 (the year we met). This hydrating, shea butter and Jojoba oil-infused lip balm not only makes sure my lips are always in kiss-worthy form, but the reverse side of the tube is a powerful (translation: one drop needed) mint drop freshener. How is this product not a sponsor for a Valentine’s Day mixer? Oh, and in keeping with my greener, cleaner lifestyle, the product is Gluten Free, Paraben Free, Sulfate Free, Petrolatum Free, Phthalate Free, and Cruelty Free. You’re welcome.ff_12916_3

4. Bestowed for Home $20 for first box – Don’t you just love when someone things for you? As a mom I feel like I’m always thinking and planning. That’s why I LOVE these curated, healthy snacking boxes. Every month you get snacks, beverages and other healthy happy goodies (once I got a fab book with hundreds of ideas for salads. So, who’s doing the thinking, label reading and intense scrutinizing? Nutritionist, author and mom-of-three (ya she’s all that and a bag of GMO-free chips!) Heather Bauer. #GirlCrush Even if you’re not a box delivery kind-of-gal, check out their site for useful infomraiton about healthy snacking and meals. There’s a great section for kids snacks.

5. Hello Kity by OPI $20-$26 – Being an 80’s baby, you could probably sell me toxic waste in the image of Hello Kitty and I’d be ALL IT! Fortunately, this isn’t toxic waste. It’s mani time! I’ve already begun to play around and can’t waitto share this with my nieces on Sunday. Oh, and my little munchkins love the “kotik” (cat, in Russian). For them, the box is a toy to adore.

Dear OPI,

Thanks for helping me get through some hectic feeding this week. Your Hello Kitty packaging was a welcome distraction! Also, thank you for sending me Hello Kitty cookies. Kotik, cookies and Suits was the name of the game, last night.

Love, Pamela 1983FF_12915_1

Hmm … something to ponder over the weekend.

Friday Five Finds - Health & Beauty Benefits of Pumpkins

Friday Five Finds: Health & Beauty Benefits of Pumpkins

I meant to write this post, yesterday, but I spent most of the day working on a very important charity project, the 2015 Shop 4 Vasculitis Campaign. More details to come.

As usual, by the time I picked up Ilana from day care (FYI she fell asleep during the 10-minute car-ride home – too cute), the kids got fed, tomorrow’s clothing got prepped, dinner was made, a quick 30-minute visit from the physical therapist to relieve crazy hamstring pain happened, and then it was 10:30pm.

No writing was coming out of me at 10:30pm. Steve and I crawled upstairs, after a failed attempt to watch Scandal. Am I wrong, or is Bellamy Young, the actress who plays the first lady, the real star of the show?

But, off on a tangent I go.

Today’s, Friday Five Finds was inspired by my new baking obsession, Cookie DŌ – ready-made cookie dough that bakes to perfection, and is edible pre baking! Yes, edible cookie do that grandma will not take away!!! Stop, is your inner child as happy as mine?

So, I’m on their website and I come across the newest flavor “Pumpkin Chai Chocolate Chunk”. WHAT? This needs to grow on trees, ladies. If it tastes as good as it sounds, I may need to stock up and lock out the husband and kids. It’s going to be a major Meaningful Me Moments weekend.

These cookies will be my consolation prize for not being able to attend the Back to the Future concert at Radio City Music Hall, tonight.

Back to the pumpkins.

What’s so great about these orange fruits?

  • Need more oomf from your meals?
    • Stay fuller, longer by eating a diet rich in dietary fiber, which helps slow digestion. Hey, guess what pumpkins are made of?
  • Skin on your face starting to match the Halloween scarecrow outside?
    • The carotenoids that give pumpkins their orange hue, also help neutralize free radicals in the skin, keeping them from damaging the cells that speed up aging. It’s like ridding The DeLorean, for your face. (I had to get in one reference!)
  • On snooze mode all day?
    •  A cup of cooked pumpkin has more of the refueling nutrient potassium, than a banana. Eat up after the gym, to restore your body’s balance of electrolytes and keep muscles in tip-top shape.
  • Not sure which of your kids is talking to you?
    • Get a boost of aid to your vision from the Vitamin-A found in pumpkins
  • Can’t shake off that cold?
    • Get 20% of your daily Vitamin-C from pumpkins, so you can sneeze less and smile more.

Here are my Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home, focusing on Health & Beauty Benefits of Pumpkins.

Friday Five Finds All About Pumpkins

1. Sophie Uliano‘s DIY Pumpkin Papaya Facial Peel – I’ve been a fan of this woman since I  caught her on Oprah years ago sharing tips on how to live Gorgeously Green. Check out her site and be on the look out for upcoming posts where I’ll be chatting with Sophie on clean beauty, and greener ways to Always Be Your Best You.

2.Naturopathica Pumpkin Purifying Enzyme Peel $56 – It was love at first you-got-rid-of-my-crazy-pregnancy-pimples sight.

3. Plum Organics hello dinner pumpkin, spinach, quinoa & baby grains $4.99 – This organic and nutritious meal came in so handy when I had to grab David, pack up in under 10-minutes, and head to grandma’s, on Tuesday. (Yes, she’s fine now. #ThatsHowThisFamilyRolls )

4. Cookie DŌ Pumpkin Chai Chocolate Chunk $17 for 16oz – I’m pretty sure I explained the SOS need for this product in every mom’s fridge, above. Ready-made, heck, even ready-to-eat, cookie dough that’s made with clean ingredients. Spoon out, bake for 10-minutes and smile.

5. Candice Kumai‘s Slimming Pumkin Smoothie – I couldn’t end this post without sharing a great find from my dear friend, Candice Kumai’s book, Clean Green Drinks. Try this tonight. If you have a fireplace, light it up, up, up, and enjoy away.

      • 1 1⁄2 cups unsweetened almond milk
      • 3⁄4 cup organic pumpkin puree
      • 1 frozen banana1⁄2 Bartlett pear, cored
      • 1⁄4 teaspoon pumpkin spice
      • 4 tablespoons (1 scoop) protein powder
      • 1⁄2 cup ice

As always, have a fabulous weekend. If you try any of these products, do let me know. Use #FridayFiveFinds #PiecesofPam.

Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home: Rain Day Activities and Accessories

I get that it’s raining and a major store is possibly hitting, but why can’t I find any Stonyfield Whole Organic Milk? How many stores must a mom visit to get the essentials? (PS $5.99 for milk!!!!! This is an outrage. I should invest in cows.)

Oh, hi, it’s you again. Thanks for coming back. Good afternoon. If you’re on the east coast and sobbing about the wet weather, here’s hoping my rain day activities and accessories Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home will get you excited about being indoors, while some goodies keep you warm and dry when you’re outside.

Have a fantastic weekend. Unplug. Play games. Sit by a fireplace, if you have one. Read. Breath. Make love. And, get the hubby, your parents, or in-laws to help, so you can have some Meaningful Me Moments.

Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home - Rain Day Activities and Accessories

1. Cuisinart CFO-1000 Lazy Susan Electric Fondue Maker $28 – If my husband is reading this: Babes, we’re scrapping dinner and doing fondue. It’s Fondue Friday. This particular set is convenient because you already have trays attached for all your fruits, veggies, bread and such. I can’t wait to light the fireplace and dive in. FYI Gruyere cheese is the best option, if you’re doing a cheese fondue, because it’s low in moisture.

2. dav Victoria Rain Shoe $98 – There are a million choices for rain boots. In full disclosure, I have three pairs, but dav boots are my favorite. They feel and look more like regular boots than rain boots. If the rain ends mid day, I don’t look weird walking around the city. I’m just a girl in her kick-ass boots.

3. Echo Touch Leather Glitten Gloves $88 – I just got these, yesterday, at the company’s Spring/Summer 2016 Press Preview. How smart of them to gift editors something they can use now. The mittens are cozy knit inside, allowing each finger to move about, with a leather mitten outside that zips open to reveal the finger-touch technology, so you can text away and stay warm. This is going on my holiday gift-giving list for many girlfriends.

4. Melissa & Doug Nesting, Sorting Garages and Cars $20 – I was having a difficult time trying to get my son to be as focused on one toy, as my daughter was at his age. Then I realized he loves cars – the sound, the look, everything. This toy has gotten him to sit, play and learn for over 20-minutes! In addition to being bright and beautiful, these cars help you teach kids colors, numbers, stacking skills and more. My daughter loves matching the cars to their respective garages, while my little munchi boy loves to play with the wheels and show we where he finds the four circles, aka wheels. Rainy days get brighter when you have the right tools and toys. It’s always about planning. Right, moms?

5. Monopoly – The Classic Edition $20 – Please stop tweeking my favorite game! Why mess with a classic? Period. Love, Pamela (and Danny and Sasha – my oldest freidns and bridesmen. We would be the first to petition for no more morphed, messed-up versions of Monopoly.)

Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home

Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home: All About Zen

Hello Saturday. I don’t mean to confuse you with Friday, by posting Friday Five Finds, today, but, as usually, yesterday did NOT go according to plan!! Oh, ya, that’s just life in The Land of Motherhood.

Two words: Swollen Eye!!

Doctors. Blood work. No day care. Exhaustion for all.

But, back to the Friday Five Finds for Mom, Baby & Home, that I meant to post, yesterday. PS Thank you to my father-in-law for walking my son, and Mr. Tchaikovsky for creating The Nutcracker, which is currently entertaining my daughter, while I type away.

fridayfive_1

1. Peter Pauper Press Tree of Life Journal $6 – Journaling has been part of my nightly routine since I was in middle school, but I haven’t been very consistent over the last  three years. Perhaps this notebook will inspire me.

2. Urban Infant Toddler Nap Mat $48 – I was searching for bedding that would fit easily on a day care cot, without sliding off. I also wanted something that was easy to bring back-and-forth, as we wash it every weekend. (I love when things are EASY.) This bedding is the smart solution for busy moms that what everything in one neat package – bedding, pillow, pillow case and pocket for pjs. Beauty sleep for Ilana and one thing off my to-buy list = zensation.

3. The Paris Wife by Paula McLain $7 – There’s nothing like a good book to wind down the day. (PS I’m a NO-TV-IN-THE-BEDROOM gal, because you’re either sleeping or not sleeping – sometimes reading – in bed. )  If you’re reading this one, let me know what you think. I’ve always wanted to be part of a book club.

4. Cockscomb Flower – Making floral arrangements is a passion of mine, and one of the ways I create Meaningful Me Moments. So, when I was strolling through the Farmers Market in Union Square, earlier this week, I couldn’t help but purchase a bushel of these lovely, velvety flowers. I’ve never seen this particular version of the cockscomb, so I was VERY excited to snatch it up for the home. Check out your local floral shop and ask about these beauties. They bloom from late summer until late fall, and make for a beautiful wreath at your entry way.

5. Rachel Brown Jewelry  14K Gold Ring with Swarovski Crystal Eye Charm $595 – Playful and spiritual, this is the next item I plan to purchase from Rachel’s collection. You can engrave it with the 72 Names of G-d, your Kabbalistic Astrological Sign, or keep it religious free with just a Name/Initials. Her jewelry has an explainable power. I know you’re thinking, “Pam, you need a nap!”. I do. But, I also know in my gut I feel better when I wear her jewelry. Chalk it up to a placebo effect, if you so choose.

Update:
This post was so close to being finished, save for a bit of editing and photo creation. I was hopeful to have a minute on Sunday – what I had was a deep desire for an EJECT BUTTON. #OneOfThoseDays … Which brings me to Monday. Hi Monday. You’ve been kinda good – except for the emergency doctor visit for David.

After dropping off Ilana at daycare, while putting David back in the car, I noticed a massive, MASSIVE bump on the side of his head. S#@t! Something hideous must have bit him in the car. Speeding to the doctor. Doctor checks all vitals and tells me he must have fallen. I didn’t see or hear him fall! Okay, but you’re good. Seven hours later, the swelling is down and I’m 100% certain it was a bug bit, based on the two side by side bits that are now visible. Assume 24 surveillance mode. Bug bites are no joke.

So, Monday, I still love you. It’s 4pm. David is OKay. I asked the babysitter to come over for three-hours, so I could catch up on work, go get some fun Sukkot decorations (ya I’m a bit late), grocery shopping, and pick up Ilana from daycare without lugging David.
